Fred Oerly, 90, rests in his wife's room in Boonville, Mo., 2012. Oerly decided to live alone in the house he built, and to carve wood to fill his time. Cancer runs in Fred's family, his wife and son, both died of cancer. Last, his daughter Diane Oerly was diagnosed with skin cancer but she fought with the disease and the cancer is in remission.
